A super fun way thing to do is to take a recipe (or in my case 4 of them) from Grandma's cookbook and make it for Sunday dinner. The challenge of bringing today's flavors and techniques to a simple recipe from the past and still make it taste like Grandma's recipe is tough... but so much fun.
Recently, I hosted a Sunday dinner where I picked spaghetti, meatballs, noodles, and bread as my dinner ideas... all from scratch and all from the wholesome goodness of Grandma.
The noodles turned out amazing. I ended up modifying the sauce a bit by adding more tomato and incorporating additional garlic flavors. The bread didn't turn out exactly as I remembered it, as this recipe asked for three rises instead of the standard two, but in the end, it was magnificent.
I highly recommend you try this
Next Sunday dinner, I want to try friend chicken and mashed potatoes (flavored in fat of course).
Here are the recipes I used:
Ah yes! Sunday night dinner! What a great idea to use Grandma’s old recipe, because when you do that, it makes that meal extra special. And it is also a reminder of your heritage.
I love your passion for cooking Robert, and how you tie it in with family, and family traditions. It really is a beautiful way to look at food! Cuz when you cook that way…. food is love. Great post!!
